Our Story: From NASA to the Night Streets
The foundation of N2lights was born out of the NASA space program. While serving as a Materials and Processes Engineer, our founder was approached by an Astronaut Candidate (AsCan) on a specific mission: to find the most reflective material ever made.
The goal was critical—attach this material to a satellite so it could be easily located, grappled, and brought safely into the Space Shuttle cargo bay during the historic STS-49 mission.
In the search for the absolute highest-performance retro-reflective material available, the answer didn’t come from a hidden laboratory, but from the open road—the ultra-durable, highly reactive material utilized on 18-wheeler commercial trailers. A sample of this incredible material was hung on the office wall, where it immediately captured the imagination.
Weeks passed, but the material couldn’t be ignored. The lingering question remained: Why should this level of visibility be restricted to spacecraft and heavy transit?
That spark of curiosity turned into a mission to bring high-performance visibility down to Earth. N2lights was launched to transform industrial-grade reflection into fun, everyday garments. Today, we design premium high-visibility outdoor apparel so people of all ages can stay safely seen while doing the things they love.
